Yumeko
Yumeko is a Japanese maiden name consisting of the words Yume and Ko. They mean "dream child" or "dream girl", very appropriate for what the people at Yumeko do. Change the world sleeping (and bathing). That is their dream.
Yumeko was founded in 2010 by Stephan Zeijlemaker and Rob van den Dool. They were looking for more sustainability in their lives and in business. They started to make bedding of the highest quality that is both sustainable and affordable at the same time. Something that seemed impossible at first is now inevitable. By offering beautiful, sustainable alternatives for bed and bath, they want to make your life more pleasant and comfortable and the world a bit cleaner and fairer.
Yumeko is a social enterprise and works with a fair chain, called FairChain, for all products in the bedroom and bathroom. That is 'better sleep' in all aspects: more comfortable, healthier, more honest and without unnecessary animal suffering. All products have an organic and/or fair trade certificate and are made especially for Yumeko by professionals in India, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Austria, Turkey and Peru.
The GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certificate guarantees that the cotton and wool used are purely organic. The entire chain, from cotton plants and sheep to duvet cover and duvet, meets the strictest ecological requirements.
The Fairtrade certificate guarantees that Yumeko pays fair wages to the cotton farmers and the professionals who make their products. They receive a pension and health insurance and work normal working hours. Women are treated the same in the cotton cooperatives as men.
