It all started in 2019 when Michael Bartenstein and Fabienne Hierzer wanted to make a change, convinced that our bodies and homes deserve better products. Aer was born and their new company is aiming to eliminate single-use plastics and set new standards in the formulation and product design of home and personal care. All their products come in minimal, esthetically pleasing containers that are reusable and recyclable. Instead of selling liquid products, Aer produces solid formulations that you mix at home with water. Thorough investigation is done to source the best plant-based and laboratory-made ingredients, and to make the products contain the bare essentials only.

Streamlined and sustainable product design extends to everything Aer does. The water-soluble formulations and reusable containers come in biodegradable and compostable paper packaging only. No more transport footprint due to bottles filled with water (existing home and personal care products often contain up to 80% of water). Obviously, shipping water across continents each day causes significant inefficiencies. First, water contained in each bottle and container takes up large amounts of space in containers, trucks and other carriers of transport. Second, it forms by far the largest contributor to the total weight of home and personal care products, thereby causing substantial amounts of carbon emissions that could easily be avoided. So why ship it in the first place? Why not simply get rid of the water and have customers add it themselves in a second? Aer powders perform just as well as conventional, pre-filled and environmentally harming home and body care. You can order the solutions once or sign up for a recurring subscription, providing you with automatic supplies. With every refill you eliminate a single-use container.
