Lunch boxes and wrapping

Since we now know all things bad that are associated with single- use plastics, we don´t want to pack our kids´ lunches in plastic bags and other disposable packaging. Very often our kids´ lunches are now packed in reusable plastic food containers. But how safe are they? Even if they are BPA-free, there are still a ton of other chemicals that could be hidden in them and leaching into the food. Like with reusable bottles, there are so many safer, beautiful and, very importantly, practical alternatives. Personally, I prefer stainless steel boxes over glass ones, not only because of their weight but also because many glass containers have some sort of plastic lid (although they should be safe) and the cotton wraps and bags all have some sort of lining usually made of polyester (although also these should be safe). A very good alternative to cotton wraps and bags and one that I like a lot is bee´s wrap. All natural and also washable (by hand). The wraps at Bee´s wrap are made with organic cotton, beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin. The ones at Superbee are made with cotton, OTOP-certified pure beeswax, organic coconut oil, tree resin. The only con to using these is that they cannot be used for wrapping meat and eggs.

Glass (tempered)

- Lifefactory. Their food storage collection comes with silicone sleeves to protect the glass. 

- Wean Green. Glass bowls and tubs in various shapes and sizes with silicone lids. Guaranteed to find the one you need! (or Wean Green EU).

- Glasslock. Airtight containers with clip-on lids. 

Stainless steel

Stainless steel is a perfect alternative for plastic, because it is non-breakable, it is lightweight, dishwasher safe and easy to clean.  The cons are that it is more expensive, but also more durable, and can´t go in the microwave, but that is not an issue for lunchboxes (and you don´t want to use it anyway, right?).

- UKonserve. Ukonserve sells a lot more than just lunchboxes. Think containers, bottles, lunch totes and ice packs. Their food wraps are made from plastic but they are reusable.  

- Boho Tiffin. According to their website: “Fashion for Food”. Beautiful tiffin boxes.

Cotton

These are perfect options if you only need to pack a sandwich (and not a salad or fruit or veggies).

- Keep Leaf. Reusable lunch bags and wraps in beautiful designs. They also sell insulated lunch bags (and a whole lot of other gorgeous things).  

- Itzy Ritzy. Reusable, machine washable zippered snack bags made with BPA-free, phthalate free, PVC free lining. 

- Fluf. Snack packs made of organic cotton with velcro closure and water-resistant lining (free of BPA, phthalates and lead).

Wood

If you want something more fancy, you can choose a wooden lunchbox. Only washable by hand though.
