Thinx

Thinx produces underwear designed to make menstruation less of a hassle and more sustainable. The company that developed a highly absorbent fabric that absorbs moisture, ensures no leaks, and is also anti-microbial, was founded in 2013 by Antonia Saint Dunbar, Miki Agrawal and Radha Agrawal. The brand does not only sell period-proof underwear, it also aims to break the taboo surrounding periods. Thinx has three brands: Thinx (period underwear), BTWN. (period underwear for tweens and teens) and Speax (underwear for bladder leaks).

Thinx is underwear that can be worn during menstruation as a substitute or a supplement to traditional feminine hygiene products. The different types of underwear can hold between 5 tampons and 1 tampon of liquid. The products are washable (hand wash or wash cold in the machine) and reusable that look and feel just like normal underwear. Every pair of Thinx is made with its signature, innovative technology for the ultimate period protection. The breathable products are safely made with cotton, nylon, and elastane and are a great option for those women who don´ t like to use a cup, or for that extra leak protection.

Thinx has a broader social mission which is to take periods out of their taboo sphere. The label is pushing back against discriminatory policies, promoting inclusivity, and moving the needle on menstrual equity so that every person has access to the products they need to reach their full potential. Today, 1 in 5 students struggle to afford period products or are unable to purchase them at all, and 84% of young people have either missed class or know someone who has missed class due to a lack of access. Reliable access to safe menstrual hygiene and incontinence products means people can fully participate in school, work, social moments, and just plain life. That’s why Thinx is working with trusted organizations to make basic hygiene products accessible to everyone. Organizations such as like Girls Inc., Safe Horizon, and the Alliance of Border Collaboratives (to name a few!) who expand access to basic hygiene products and community services like reproductive healthcare and mentoring.
