Rakha

Many people are now beginning to realize the negative impact of fashion on people and the environment. Current production processes place economic gains of large companies above environmental and ethical considerations, causing large amount of waste and pollution that threaten people and our planet. Rakha was created with the idea of re-defining classics, considering design for longevity and choosing materials carefully. A circular approach is taken from the design stage throughout the whole processes involved in its supply chain. After comprehensive research and detailed study on how we can help change the whole supply chain and create better clothes, Rakha´s sustainability journey started.

Social and environmental responsibility is an integral part of the brand’s strategy and practice. Rakha strives to work with innovative materials and processes and is committed to reducing its environmental impact by working with partners who share the same values. By continually reviewing and improving the sustainability performance Rakha aims to encourage customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to do the same.

While fashion is transient, Rakha´s ethos is drawn from the classics: understated, contemporary garments. Rakha does not follow seasons or trends but rather focuses on re-designing those classic pieces. The brands approach to sustainability is through creating garments made from bio-degradable or recycled materials aiming to achieve a closed loop system. At least 50% of Rakha's production is made by using Global Recycle Standard Certified (GRS) materials which are either made from pre-consumer or post-consumer wastes. Over 40% Global Organic Standard (GOTS) certified materials are used in the production.

Rakha tries to ensure that only mono-nonmixed materials are used in order to increase the chances for the garments to either being recycled into new materials or composted safely in the landfill. The materials, vegan, organic, bio-degradable and re-cycled, are carefully sourced from partners who share the same values: cruelty free, toxic free, fair wages and guilt free. Rakha aims to work only with green manufacturers, with established environmental management systems, standards and certifications, limiting the carbon impact, waste and water management of the operations.

The work at Rakha is very much aligned with some of the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN. They are determined to take responsibility on every piece of garment produced. Not only in the supply chain but also by considering the whole life cycle of each garment made. Which is why they aim to ensure that everything designed and produced can be fed back in the system either as a technical or as a biological nutrient. The goal is to help promote sustainable and ethical fashion in all countries where Rakha operates.

Rakha also developed a project, called the Rakha People Training scheme for Refugees in London, which aims to give training for disadvantaged women in communities in London in order to increase their employability skills, with the ultimate goal of creating sustainable communities. The project has won an award from the Unltd., an organization that supports social businesses. Rakha People os now launched as an independent and separate charitable organization in order to grow the training scheme with the aim of at least tripling the number of students they train for each of their training schemes.
