noho
Noho helps people 'sit healthier', by creating Life Enriching Furniture™ that's beautiful, versatile, and built to last a lifetime. Redefining 'design for people & planet' so we can all look forward to a healthier future together. Healthy comfort that doesn't cost our earth.
Founded in Aotearoa New Zealand by Richard Shirtcliffe, noho is a company with deep roots and a deep respect for the natural beauty and cultural values of our home. From the language of the indigenous Māori, noho means to sit, stay, dwell, live. It embodies a fundamental belief in kinship and connection between humans and the natural world (kaitiakitanga). Noho´s values are reflected in every detail of their products, starting with the innovative designs created by sister company, Formway, which combine new insights in human physiology with deep expertise in ergonomic and sustainable design. All furniture is manufactured in New Zealand to ensure sustainability throughout the supply chain while powering the production with 82 percent renewable energy. The transformational noho move chair is made in Aotearoa New Zealand from up-cycled plastic waste. Flexible, versatile and dynamic, its revolutionary design ensures correct posture and healthy ergonomic comfort. Supporting your modern living, from dining, to relaxing, to working from home.
At noho they are out to change the world by changing people’s expectations about what furniture can and should do for our homes, our health and our environment. Furniture should look and feel good while doing good for our planet, too. It’s why noho doesn’t rely on conventional thinking or materials, but instead creates earth-friendly designs that help clean up our oceans, protect our environment and enrich our homes, our well-being and our everyday lives.
Noho believes our furniture should fit with our values as well as our lifestyles. They set out to create life-enriching furniture in the most planet-kind ways they can—repurposing discarded waste, using sustainable energy and packaging and building products to last. It´s not perfect yet, but they're doing their best to help turn the tide toward a healthier planet and future for everyone.
For noho, business success and sustainability go hand-in-hand. As a Public Benefit Corporation, they’re as committed to their purpose of creating furniture that’s fundamentally better for people and for our planet as they are to our financial well-being. Often referred to as “triple-bottom-line business,” to us this means doing things in a more mindful and considered way, so that everyone— employees, customers and our precious planet—can benefit and thrive. Noho is also an accredited B Corp (pending)—a certification that is to business what Fair Trade Certification is to coffee. To earn this distinction, companies must meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency—measures noho already holds themselves to every day.
