Looma Home
Denver Rayburn and Ishaan Jalan started Looma Home to make not only the softest, coziest, and highest heirloom-quality bedding on the planet, but to do so only with the highest ethical and sustainability standards. Looma exclusively uses premium, sustainably sourced long staple GOTS certified 100% organic cotton.
Sourced directly from local farmers in the Himalayan basin of Northern India, this organic cotton is grown without the use of any pesticides or harsh chemicals. The unique climate and extremely fertile land make for the perfect cotton farming environment. The land is cultivated by hand and fed entirely by rainwater, resulting in cotton composed of extra-long, wispy fibers that are twice as soft and four times more durable than conventionally grown cotton. The result is a cotton that requires 90% less water to cultivate, creates 50% less CO2 in production, and is fully hypoallergenic. Looma uses GOTS compliant OEKO-TEX certified organic natural dyes that are 100% vegan and are made in a closed loop system which recycles the water from the dyeing process.
The unique strain of cotton used - Long-staple Himalayan Cotton- is known worldwide for its extremely long and strong fibers called staples. The wispy fibers make for fabric that's twice as soft and four times more durable than conventional cotton. The smooth, uniform fibers mean that your sheets will have an incredibly soft feel that will continue to soften over the lifetime of your sheets. Their renown strength means that your sheets won't pill even wash after wash. Woven into a traditional Sateen weave, the smooth fibers are ideal for breathability and temperature regulation - keeping you cool in the summer and cozy in the winter.
Fairtrade ensures a guaranteed minimum price for products and extra payments for community development projects like building schools, health clinics, roads or investments in technology (decided by the farmers, no one else!). There are also strict ethical & environmental standards both at farms and at factories like no child labor, no forced labor, no dangerous working conditions.Looma takes pride in paying their workers fairly and providing safe working conditions to making a lasting impact on these communities. Buying the raw material ourselves allows us to provide customers with prices that reflect the actual quality of the cotton rather than the "middleman markup", provide stable prices, and ensure fair wages and working conditions for the farmers. The label has also partnered with Hanuman Girls’ School in Rajasthan to sponsor a month of education for every Looma set sold.
Looma is also a PETA certified vegan brand. While most of us associate "vegan" with food, this concept of not unnecessarily killing/hurting/abusing animals for our human consumption extends to all other aspects of our lives including our bedding too. Vegan bedding is free from any animal products and there is no animal testing or cruelty associated with them. Just plant-based products & dyes.
