Lachlan and Lisa Laing started looking for an eco-friendly diaper in 2011, but found themselves frustrated with the available eco diapers because they were either really expensive or not that eco at all. “We discovered conventional diapers take 500 years per nappy to break down,” Lisa recalls. So they started to investigate creating a diaper that was made from plant-based ingredients that was better for babies and the environment, but wasn’t too expensive. “It took two years of research and development, talking to biotech companies all over the world,” Lisa says.
Ecoriginals nappies are super soft, premium eco nappies made from plant based ingredients. The leak barrier is made with Cardia Compostable film, instead of the normal plastic layer. This means that the diaper is more breathable for your baby (this layer is up to 5 times more breathable than the traditional plastic layer used in conventional disposable nappies). Furthermore, the diapers contain no harmful chemicals and fragrances (completely free from chlorine, phthalates, fragrances, lotions, latex and heavy metals.
Even though biodegradable products don´t biodegrade in landfills, if you dispose of a product that contains predominantly biodegradable ingredients then it will break down much faster compared to a conventional nappy full of plastic. The diapers are packed in 100% compostable bags that will quickly and easily break down.
